InPACT 2026<\/strong>\u00a0will take place in in the beautiful city of\u00a0Funchal<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0Madeira Archipelago, Portugal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Madeira has been elected for the tenth time the \u201cWorld\u2019s Leading Island Destination<\/a>\u201c<\/em> in 2024 by the World Travel Awards \u2013 it has won in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 \u2013 and for the tenth time the \u201cEurope\u2019s Leading Island Destination\u201d<\/em> \u2013 it has won in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024 (check it here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Located in a bay bathed by the Atlantic Ocean on the island of Madeira\u2019s southern coast, Funchal is the capital of the Madeira Island chain. The island of Madeira\u2019s capital city and biggest tourist hub is cosmopolitan and full of history, culture and entertainment. Its name comes from \u201cfuncho\u201d, a wild herb once abundant at the time of its first settlement.
In the shape of an amphitheatre, the municipality of Funchal extends along a slope ranging from sea level to 1,818 metres above sea level at Pico do Arieiro.
The scenery is highly diverse, with year-round activities, attractions and entertainment.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s one of the region\u2019s oldest municipalities, it became a city in 1508 by Royal Charter under D. Manuel I, and has always done well due to its strong economic, social and cultural potential.
The city of Funchal has many leisure activities to offer, you can visit the magnificent monuments, museums and gardens, go shopping, explore the typical Portuguese-style cobbled streets, or simply have a pleasant time sitting on a terrace.<\/p>\n

The island of Madeira is located 310 miles from the African coast, and 620 miles from the European continent, which is the equivalent to 1 hour and 30 minutes flight from Lisbon. The archipelago, discovered by the Portuguese in 1418, is made up of the Islands of Madeira, Porto Santo, and the uninhabited Islands of Selvagens and Desertas (both Natural Reserves).<\/p>\n

These islands, because of their privileged geographical position and mountainous relief, have a surprisingly mild climate and a moderate level of humidity, conferring these islands\u2019 exceptional subtropical features. The seawater temperature is also very mild, because of the influence of the warm Gulf Stream, presenting averages of 24\u00baC in the summer and 18\u00ba in the winter.
